How Often Should You Get a Haircut?

One of the most common questions we hear at Fort Worth Barber Shop is surprisingly simple: "How often should I be getting my hair cut?"

We have some clients that we see every single week. And by all means, we’d love to keep you fresh every week too. But the answer depends on your hairstyle, your hair type and how polished you want your look to be. But most of our regulars schedule a haircut every two to six weeks.

Here are some guidelines for helping you determine what’s right for you:

Every 2–3 Weeks

If you wear a skin fade, high fade, or any style that relies on sharp lines and clean edges, you'll probably want to visit your barber every two to three weeks. These styles grow out quickly. Even the best fade starts looking different after a couple of weeks. If you're someone who likes looking consistently sharp, frequent maintenance is worth it.

Every 4–6 Weeks

For most of our regular clients, this is the sweet spot. A haircut every four to six weeks keeps your style looking intentional without feeling overly maintained.

This schedule works well for:

  • Classic men's haircuts

  • Taper fades

  • Textured styles

  • Most beard trims

  • Professional workplace styles

It's also the schedule we recommend most often.

Every 6–8 Weeks

Longer hairstyles typically require less frequent maintenance. That doesn't mean you should wait until your hair feels completely out of control.

Regular trims help:

  • Remove damaged ends

  • Maintain shape

  • Encourage healthy growth

  • Prevent awkward grow-out phases

Even if you're growing your hair longer, maintenance still matters.

Your Haircut Schedule Is Personal

Some people want a perfectly clean fade every two weeks. Others are happy coming in every six or seven weeks. Neither approach is wrong. The best schedule is the one that fits your budget, lifestyle and hair goals. Our team of professionals can help you determine what works best for you.

Signs It's Time for a Haircut

Not sure whether it's time?

Here are a few signs:

  • Your neckline looks messy

  • Your sideburns have lost their shape

  • Styling takes longer than normal

  • Your beard feels uneven

  • Your hair no longer sits the way it did after your last appointment

When you start noticing those things, it's probably time.

Build a Routine

One of the easiest ways to always look your best is to schedule your next appointment before leaving the shop. You don't have to think about it.

You don't have to scramble for an opening. And you avoid the cycle of waiting too long and feeling frustrated with your hair. At Fort Worth Barber Shop, many of our regular clients simply rebook every four weeks and never have to wonder when it's time for their next haircut. It's one less thing to think about. And that's not a bad thing.
